3 Tips For Using Wire Mesh In Concrete

Concrete is one of the most versatile and durable materials used in the construction industry today. Many concrete structures are reinforced with wire mesh to give them added strength and stability.

Wire mesh can only provide the necessary support when it is installed correctly. Use these three tips to help improve the overall quality of your wire mesh–supported concrete structures in the future.

1. Measure Before Installation

One of the easiest ways to ensure that your wire mesh concrete is as durable as possible is to measure the area where wire mesh will be applied before you begin the application process.

Wire mesh can be obtained in sheets or by the roll. Both forms come in standard sizes that must be trimmed down in order to fit your unique project.

Measuring and cutting the concrete wire mesh before you begin installation will make it easier to control the movement of the wire mesh. This allows you to carefully place the wire mesh so that it provides optimal support.

2. Use the Sandwich Method

It's important that you use the correct technique when you are installing wire mesh in a concrete slab.

You should always employ the sandwich method. This method requires that you pour a thin layer of concrete and allow it to cure almost completely before laying down your wire mesh. The remaining concrete is then poured over the top of the wire mesh, sandwiching the wire mesh inside the concrete.

The purpose of this installation method is to prevent the wire mesh from rusting over time. Having the mesh at the center of a concrete structure is the best way to provide the stability and support needed to extend the life of the structure.

3. Use the Right Equipment

Access to the right equipment is a must when you are working with wire mesh.

Although wire mesh is a lightweight and flexible material, it can be incredibly dangerous. Sharp edges can cut into your hands during installation. Always wear thick gloves and protective eyewear when working with wire mesh.

You should also ensure that your tools are capable of cutting through the wire mesh. This will ensure that you can easily and accurately trim down your wire mesh rolls or panels in preparation for installation.

Using wire mesh in your concrete is a great way to improve structural stability. Proper installation will help maximize the support that wire mesh lends to your concrete structures in the future.

An A to Z Guide to Industrial Equipment and Supplies

Welcome to my blog. My name is Jamie, and I love industrial equipment. In this space, I hope to create a bunch of blogs that together will create an A-to-Z guide to industrial equipment. I hope to write about topics such as vibrating motors, belts, compressors, conveyor lines, and much much more. I don't plan to create posts in any sort of alphabetical order, but I hope to write enough that I cover most of the alphabet for my readers. Whether you've been working in the industrial sector for years or are just starting out, there should be information that appeals to you. Poke around, check out some of my posts, and share them if you like.
